You think she’s yours but she calls me nightly, telling me what i want to hear, whispering the words of love in my ear. You probably don’t remember last night’s dream, like what she told you you’d have to do, to keep her safe and sound and out of harm’s way. People you know try to tell you but, you never listen. Boy what you don’t know.
You think that just because she called your name, you’re the only one she wants, but when she doesn’t come home, what will you do? You think that she’s all about your world but I know better. When you wake up to find she’s flown away you’ll know.
And in the morning early to rise, head up in the skies, she won’t wonder why. I’ll be awake and willing. You’ll come home one winter afternoon, there’ll be no letter. Just you and your broken heart, in an empty room.
So if you listen very close you might hear, the sound of laughter soft and clear. That’s her whispering sweet love’s songs in my ear. And when you wake up in your blue nightmare, realizing she’s not there, we’ll be on the beach somewhere, who knows where.
